English 6 – Johannes Kepler

in the 1500s there was a man named Johannes Kepler. He studied at an university in the 1590s. One of his teachers was a follower of the astronomer, Nicolas Copernicus. During the time, everyone believed that the earth was the center of the solar system, which was called geocentrism. Kepler believed that the earth revolved around the sun, which was called heliocentrism. The geocentric view was very popular. Kepler then started to work with another astronomer named Tycho Brahe from 1600 to 1601. Tycho died in 1601. In 1605, Kepler realized that orbit must be an ellipse. He then formulated the law of planetary motion. The law states that, ‘ Planets move in elliptical orbits, the sun is one focal point of orbit.’ In the aftermath, people began to understand that the earth revolved around the sun, instead of that the sun revolved around the earth
